This holiday season our Rouse Band will be giving back! We are hosting our first ever Flip’n Flapjacks Charity Dinner on Thursday, December 6 from 6PM-8PM in the Rouse Cafeteria.
I think we can all agree that our marching season was filled with tremendous success both on and off the marching pad! Our Directors, Clinicians, & Techs, every day, provide our students with skills that reach far beyond musical notes and instruments. The kids sometimes don’t even realize that they are getting experience in so many non-musical life-skills that will have positive impacts as they become adults. This season, we have the opportunity to share the gift of music education with other kids who would not have the opportunity to be in music. We are partnering with Kids In A New Groove, a local non-profit organization that provides students in the Foster Care System in Texas with the chance to learn the incredible benefits of music education in their life.
Since 2009, Kids In A New Groove has served over 650 youth in foster care with free, weekly music lessons and mentorship. They currently have 143 students as of 10/31 in their program with 6 students who are waiting to be matched with a music mentor. There are currently over 32,000 children in the Texas foster care system. Half of those children will not graduate high school. Less than 3% will earn a college degree. For the past four years, 100% of Kids In A New Groove students graduated high school and 95% went on to attend college, technical school or enlist in the military. Music mentorship has played an integral part of the success of each of these students.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. Rouse Band is an incredible place to be!!!
