Permaculture is a design system for sustainable living. It encourages holistic consideration of form, function, & goals, to create systems that have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. In this 45 minute intro, we will discuss the principles of permaculture and illustrate the many facets of each using real world examples. Permaculture is relevant for all environments, from urban to rural, and for all systems from farming and gardening to interior design and business. Everyone will come away with an understanding of the fundamentals of permaculture, which is like walking away with a whole new toolbox for analyzing the systems in the world around you. You will also leave with a list of resources, contacts, and next steps should you be interested in going further down the rabbit hole. Come to learn, and be inspired to start designing yourself.

About Blinking Owl Acres
Blinking Owl Acres is a five acre permaculture homestead located in the Lost Pines ecosystem in Bastrop County. At the homestead, they are hard at work designing integrated production systems that take advantage of the bounty of the local ecology while working to improve soil fertility and vitality. Similarly, the Blinking Owl Acres line of Owl Natural makeup & body care utilizes the bounty produced by the homestead with responsibly sourced ingredients to create high quality products that balance and nourish the skin’s ecology, empowering it to be healthy and beautiful.

Shelly Belinko spent three decades roaming the world before she realized she was meant to be in Texas. Now, she spends her days homeschooling her children and developing Blinking Owl Acres, a permaculture based homestead and artisanal makeup & body care company based in Smithville, TX. She has spent much of the last decade working in the field of natural & healthy living and is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience. She is also a total nerd and loves to stay up all night researching crazy ideas, brewing mysterious potions, and devising all sorts of plans for the homestead.
